Mary Alice passed away peacefully in her home after a long battle with illness. Mary Alice was beautiful, strong and had the most angelic singing voice. She graduated from Highland High School in 1973 then became one of the first women police officers on the Salt Lake City Police Department. After the birth of her daughters, Maria and Hailey, Mary Alice left the force to pursue other things. She became a health educator and later went back to college to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She devoted herself to helping others with trauma, grief and loss. She worked for the American Cancer Society, Utah Department of Workforce Services and finally had her own private practice. While her personal struggles prevented her from working much the last ten years, Mary Alice still offered support through a women’s group she hosted and was always a welcoming sounding board for friends in need.
She is survived by her daughters and grandchildren Maria Johnson (Cole, Preslie, Tristan, Colin), Hailey Steinmeyer (Sawyer, June), and all five of her siblings, David Stoddard, Pamela Fry, Jeffrey Stoddard, Becky Prescott, Marggy Durant and many nieces and nephews.
Our hearts are broken, but we are so grateful she is finally out of pain and in peace.
The Lord bless you and keep you, Mama.
