Marilyn Rae (Walker) Weber, 92, passed away quietly on June 1st, 2022 in Murray, Utah surrounded by family. She lived a bold and radiant life focused on loving and encouraging her family, friends - and everyone blessed to know her. She passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her loving husband of 44 years, Wayne Weber, and the chorus of family awaiting her heavenly celebration: a life well-lived.
Born August 1, 1929, Marilyn Walker was the eldest of four and, at age 9, when her young father Milton died, helped her mother Emma raise three rambunctious siblings, Lowell, Marian and Richard. She is survived by her baby brother Richard Walker (Kathy), her sons Blaine (Julie), Mark (Karen), and daughter, Patricia. Her grandkids Christianne, Justen, Mackenzie, Allison and Jeffrey, and seven great grandchildren, Boston, Bella-Rae, Justen II, Wayne, Aiyana, Rogan, and Flora; who were each inspired by the joy and loving care of their treasured, wonderful Nana.
A young Marilyn and Wayne moved to Casablanca in 1950 when Wayne began his 30-year career (after serving as an Army Air Force Sargent in WWII in Casablanca) as a director in the Air Force Civil Service. The Moroccan Revolution forced them to Athens, Greece where they raised their two boys. After returning to Phoenix, where daughter Patricia was born, their global adventures landed them for the next 15 years in Honolulu. When laws required that Tricia (with Downs Syndrome) be mainstreamed into public school, Marilyn stubbornly refused and - with no training - launched the first ever Montessori School in Hawaii, originally named Katrice Montessori, after Patricia. 50 years later, her legacy shines brightly still through the Montessori Community School in Honolulu.
Like her mother Emma Walker and sister Marian (a soloist in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir), Marilyn was an accomplished soloist in choir, at Hawaiian weddings and performed with the Follies at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theater. Her creativity led her to be an interior decorator, painter, and floral arranger, but she was most proud of being a creative mom, grandma, aunt and friend to kids and families throughout her life. Marilyn, Wayne and Tricia returned to the mainland to live in Seattle with their family in 1980, with times in St. George, Utah to be near her siblings, family and sunshine.
A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held on Friday, June 10th at Wasatch Lawn Memorial in Salt Lake City at 2:00pm MST.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to a special scholarship to help families in need, called the “Patricia Weber Scholarship Fund” with Montessori Community School Hawaii, to celebrate Marilyn’s legacy. She wanted the fund to be named for Tricia of course, not herself.
