Jack was born on June 6, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Garfield Jarvis and Edith Alpha Stevens. He passed away peacefully in his home on November 24, 2020 at the young age of 90. Jack is now reunited with his beloved eternal companion, Norma Ruth Jorgenson Jarvis and his dear grandson Zack (son of Lynda), who both passed before him.
Jack will be sorely missed by his 5 loving daughters, Lynda Palmer, Julie Jenkins (Al), Shauna Kersh (Butch), Jacki Parrish (Louis), and Connie Ranck (Brian). Jack leaves a rich posterity with 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear younger sister Colleen Muir (Ron).
Jack will be missed by his dear friend Rocky, a rescue dog that remained faithfully by his side since the passing of his dear wife.
Jack loved to read. At any one time, he was working through 4 or 5 books and he would get lost for hours as he read everything he could get his hands on.
Jack loved football. He was a lineman for East High School and was an avid fan of the University of Utah football team his entire life.
Jack served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, laboring with the people of Samoa. While there he taught the gospel, oversaw construction projects and even assisted in the translation of several chapters from the Doctrine and Covenants into Samoan. He remained a faithful member of the Church throughout his entire life. He lived a Christ-like life constantly giving quiet acts of service to his family, friends, and neighbors. If you needed help, Jack was there, with skilled hands, a strong back, and a broad smile.
Jack had a love for boating, especially at Lake Powell, where he is famous for riding his “saucer,” a type of disk-shaped water ski that he invented, upon which he perfected his ability to ride behind the boat in a headstand to the amazement and delight of all who watched.
Jack was a deeply committed family man and he loved nothing more than having his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren around him. He made each one feel like his favorite and he was a fan of whatever hobby, talent, or sporting event that they participated in.
It is impossible to estimate the positive impact that Jack has had on his family and on all who knew him. His contagious smile and kind heart made those around him feel loved. The world is a better place because Jack was here. He will be missed.
Special thanks to Lynda for her loving service to Jack as she cared for him for the past 3 years.
A private family service will be streamed on Wednesday, December 2nd at 12:00 noon. If you would like to view the live stream, use the following link:
