James W. Roache passed away on the morning of May 22, 2021. Jim was born in South Bend, IN to Catharine Stewart and Patrick John Roache. He was one of 5 children and spent his childhood in New Mexico. He graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder and then moved to San Diego to begin his career in aerospace. While in San Diego, Jim met the love of his life, Aminda Sloan. Jim and Aminda married in 1998 and had two boys, Alexander Patrick Roache (20) and Tyler James Roache (18). Jim’s career in aerospace took the family from San Diego to Redondo Beach, CA and eventually to Salt Lake City, UT.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman and enthusiastically loved life and adventure, especially if he could be with friends. He went to the Olympic trials in cycling, rock climbed El Capitan, and rafted the Colorado river thru the Grand Canyon. He was a surfer, skier, mountain biker and hiker, taking advantage of all that California and Utah had to offer. Some of Jim’s greatest mountaineering accomplishments include summiting Aconcagua, Denali, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Pica de Orizaba, and Mt. Rainier, which he completed with his two sons.
He will be remembered for his intelligence, confidence, sense of humor and insuppressible energy. He had a larger-than-life personality, and a zest for living life to the fullest. Most of all, he will be remembered for his warm heart, which was the rock of his family, and made him a friend to everyone who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife Aminda, his sons Alexander and Tyler, parents Catharine and Patrick and his siblings Elizabeth and Emmet. He was preceded in death by his siblings Molly and Anne. A remembrance gathering will be held June 12, 2021 at Snowbird Resort from 2pm to 4pm (9385 S Snowbird Center Drive, Snowbird, UT 84092).
