Earleen was born on November 26, 1941 to Willis Earl Thompson and Tellma Goodey Thompson in Logan Utah. She grew up in the small town of Clarkston, Utah and attended North Cache High School where she met her high school sweetheart Darrell Dee Gregory. Earleen and Darrell were sealed for time and all eternity on August 3, 1960, in the Logan Utah Temple. They moved to the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City where they spent 62 years together while raising four beautiful daughters, Joleen, Lanette, Geniel and Deena.
Earleen was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her time and talents were dedicated to her family and to the church as her Christ-like love was demonstrated while serving in many callings, including Young Women General Board, All Church dance festival committee, Stake and Ward Young Women President, Oakcrest Camp committee chairman and Relief Society President.
Earleen served with her husband Darrell as Inner-City Missionaries in Salt Lake City, in the Young Single Adult ward, and as ordinance workers at the Salt Lake Temple. She loved the people she served, and it was evident in her laugh, smile and her kindness to so many.
Earleen’s greatest accomplishment and her ultimate joy was her family. She loved her 4 girls and, in turn, they gave her 4 boys (sons-in-law), 13 amazing grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She supported all of them as she attended dance concerts, sporting events, school performances and any events in their lives that gave her the opportunity to be with her wonderful children and grandchildren.
Some of her favorite things to do were…dancing with Darrell, cooking, sewing, crocheting, ceramics, playing the accordion and piano, camping at Wasatch Mountain State Park, shopping at Swiss Days, family trips to Lake Powell, Disney parks, cruises, planning and decorating for all of the holidays and family gatherings! She loved spending time with her family!
Earleen enjoyed her time as a homemaker and while at home she was involved in PTA and being a hostess at The Church Office Building. As her girls grew up, she then went to work at JC Penney's, Zions Bank for 20 years, Morgan Stanley and Clark American.
Earleen will be missed by her husband Darrell, daughters Joleen (David) Scott, Lanette (Jon) Judkins, Geniel (Arie) Anderson, Deena (Darren) Denning, 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Siblings LaRae (Wally) Olney, Lothair (Georgann) Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Tellma Thompson.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday February 6, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at the Grandview Ward building, 2930 South 2000 East, Salt Lake City. Friends and family will be welcomed at a viewing at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, Sunday February 5, 2023, from 6 to 8 pm and at the ward on Monday February 6, from 10:30 to 11:45 am.
The interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
We would like to express our gratitude to Intermountain Hospice group and Twin Oaks Memory Care staff for the love and kindness they shared with Earleen these past several months.
