He was born on July 19, 1951, to William Edward and Edith VanPatton Bowcutt in Salt Lake City, Utah.
After graduating from Kearns High School in 1969 Doug joined the Army. He served two tours in Viet Nam, serving as a Crew Chief on a Chinook Helicopter. He then served a life-long career as an aircraft mechanic at Hill Air Force Base. He was married/divorced Lori Thompson, married/divorced to Sharlene Cook. In 1980 he met the love of this life, Rae Dawn Hughes. They married February 6,1988. Before Rae Dawn's battle with Alzheimer's, Doug and Rae loved to travel, seeming to always take a back road or the path less traveled. He also enjoyed playing Golf and watching it from his Lazy Boy at home.
Doug is survived by: Dave (Marilyn), Justin (Nikki), Chris (Amber), Jamie (Martin), Jay Dee (Becky). He is survived by 10 Grandchildren and 3 Great-grandchildren. Survived by Brother: Jay (Brenda), Sisters: Sally (Roy), and Becky (Jack).
Doug was preceded in death by his late wife Rae Dawn, his father William, his mother Edith, and his brother Dave.

Funeral services and interment will be held October 18, 2024 @ 2:00 PM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
