Carolyn Carr Duggins passed away Friday September 27, 2024, at the age of 81 in Holladay, Utah. She was born December 25, 1942, in Ogden, Utah, to Albert and Aura Carr. Carolyn graduated from Ogden High School in 1961; achieved her associate degree in nursing from Weber College in 1964; became a licensed registered nurse in 1964; then on to the University of Utah for her bachelor's degree in nursing graduating in 1966. From 1966 to 1970 she served in the Utah Air National Guard as a flight nurse transporting wounded soldiers from Japan back to the US during the Vietnam War.
In 1971 she married Rodney (Rod) Duggins and had two sons: Timothy (1973) and Andrew (1976). During their marriage Rod and Carolyn lived in Salt Lake City, UT; Bellevue, WA; Bountiful, UT; and finally in Mesquite, NV. After she retired, Carolyn returned to Holladay, UT, to help Andrew and his wife, Nichole, with their growing family.
Carolyn’s professional life as a nurse included pediatrics, home health, public health, hospice, and finally as a school nurse. Caring for people was in her soul. She would take care of anyone that needed it. Often taking care of her neighbors in her condo complex in Holladay and seeing to it that they were taking their medications properly and that their needs were met. Nursing wasn’t just a job; it was who she was.
Carolyn loved to play pickleball; travel; play card games; go to movies, community concerts, plays, and musicals. But most of all she loved her grandkids, Delilah and Finnegan. The time that she was able to spend with them was the most important thing to her. Her passing leaves a huge empty space in the lives that she touched.
Carolyn is survived by her son Andrew Duggins, his wife Nichole Duggins, and their children Delilah Duggins and Finnegan Duggins. She was preceded in death by Timothy (son), Darrell Checketts (nephew), Devin Checketts (nephew), Rodney (husband), and Denise Checketts (sister).
