The Family CEO and Chairwoman
March 9, 1924 – April 23, 2010
Our beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and confidant, Beverly Callister Thomas was born in Salt Lake City, to Robert Cockrell and Erma Park Cockrell. She graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah. On August 14, 1946 she married Alan Q. Callister, who later passed away on May 13, 1969. Together they had four beautiful children, Leslie (Charles) Archer, Edward (Susan) Callister, Rebecca (Michael) Brown, and Andrew (Susan) Callister. Beverly once again found love and married David C. Thomas on December 26, 1972; he passed away on January 23, 1988. Her stepchildren included, David Thomas, Trisha Wilkinson and Timothy Thomas.
Over the course of her lifetime, Beverly made several contributions and donated time to many organizations, church, school and society. She also embraced and welcomed seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and her cat, Sadie, into the world. Each, of course, was the best looking in all the land, and she wasn’t afraid to say it. Beverly enjoyed playing bridge, going bowling and was also an avid reader. Summers were spent in Capistrano, California with her family. She traveled the world where she saw great and amazing things. One of her great adventures was learning to fly during World War II.
Beverly was sure to spread cheer and laughter to everyone around her. Although not admitting to the humor she exuded, she was always able to make everyone laugh. She was stubborn, but brave. Tough, but warm. Proud, but caring.
There was to be no crying at her passing, because she wanted it to be done her way.
The family would like to thank her doctors, St. Josephs, Aspen Ridge and Sunrise Assisted living for the compassionate care our dear mother and grandmother received.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 1, at 10:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr. Salt Lake City, UT, a visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Utah Humane Society.
