He was born on August 14, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah to June Whipple Jones and Dale Eugene Jones, the second of four children. He was athletically gifted, and in his youth loved playing basketball and baseball. He graduated from Highland High School in Salt Lake City and “Ali Bey” as he was known, played as a Forward on the Utah State Championship Basketball Team in 1965 as a Senior. He was also a member of the A Cappella Choir at Highland. After high school he had dreams of playing professional baseball. He attended the University of Utah and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He married Lynda Fowkes Jones in 1968 and they had three children together. They spent the early years of their marriage in Boise, Idaho. They moved back to Sandy, Utah in 1975 when he began his 25-year career in sales and management with Lawson Products. He and Lynda later divorced.
Albo loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing the Provo River, pheasant hunting in Salina, Utah, spending time at his family’s cabin in Island Park, Idaho, and golfing with his son, Eric. In 2001, Alan married Marsha Jones and they spent several years in Helena, Montana before eventually settling in Lehi, Utah. He and Marsha spent the rest of his life in Utah County enjoying the beauty of Utah with frequent drives to favorite locations across the Wasatch Front.
Alan is survived by his wife, Marsha Jones; son Eric Jones of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters Lisa Jones (Scott McAward) of Salt Lake City, Utah and Adrienne (Devin) McCune of Denver, Colorado; step-daughters Marci Taylor and Kristi Taylor (Dan) Askew both of Lehi, Utah; eight grandchildren (Seamus and Rory McCune, Calvin McAward, Zeke and Mason Jones, and Clara, Eddie and Henry Askew); his sister Carolyn (Dan) Pelkey of Capistrano Beach, California; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his three lifelong close friends John Gleave, Steve Harmon, and Craig Denton, with whom he had countless fun adventures since childhood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and June Jones, and his brothers Gordon and Gary Jones.
Alan was laid to rest at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park following a private family service. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate any donations in his name to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. www.hdsa.org
