She was born on November 11,1948 in Atlanta, GA. Her parents were Lawrence Richard Malone and Norma Prastmark, both now deceased. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 55 years, Gary Johnson; her loving sons Kevin Johnson (Yukari Ban) and Timothy Johnson (Cheryl Ryder); her treasured grandchildren Elorah-Lynn and Bruce Johnson; her two brothers, Lawrence Malone (Toni) and Michael Malone (Sheila); and many dear nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends who held her in the highest regard.
She received her high school diploma from George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church, VA in 1966 and then attended business school shortly after graduation. Becoming focused primarily on raising her two sons when they were young, she did frequent substitute teaching and various volunteer activities at their elementary school, St. John’s in Hollywood, MD and then transitioned into the workforce to serve in multiple Secretarial and Administrative Assistant positions at St. Mary’s College, St. Mary’s City, MD. She retired from there in June of 2000.
After relocating to PA with her husband upon his retirement in 2003, her hobbies and volunteer activities expanded into multiple areas: pet ownership (2 beloved cats – Sinjin and Sophie); leadership of the local hiking club; corresponding secretary for the local Institute For Retired Persons; hospital volunteer work; highway trash pickup; yardwork; and participating in an active Mah Jongg group in the neighborhood. She was also famous for her over-the-top Halloween parties every year and her flower beds and hanging flower baskets (which adorned her front porch) and seemed to grow more spectacular every year.
Above all else, her family was the most important thing in her life. Her 55 year marriage to Gary was remarkable for their mutual love, partnership, and joint focus on raising their sons to the best of their abilities. Always ready to advise and not direct (or at least try not to), she took immense pride in her sons’ accomplishments. And she truly lit up whenever she heard the word “grandma”. She will be dearly missed by all.
Respecting her wishes, she will be cremated with no services planned by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be provided to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter in Chambersburg, PA in her name.
