Mike was born in Richmond, on June 11, 1944, to Addie Lena Ferguson and Willard Thornton Paulette. A graduate of Douglas Freeman High School, Mike earned a bachelor’s degree at Hampden–Sydney College and a Masters of Commerce from the University of Richmond. After serving as an officer in the U.S. Army, Mike spent his career in banking, retiring as an executive officer at Bank of America. He served as Chairman of the National Automated Clearing House Association and held other leadership roles with the Association for Corporate Growth, the Executive Advisory Council of the University of Richmond Robins School of Business, the marketing and management advisory board of the Virginia State University Business School and the corporate board of OneMindHealth. As an elder and deacon in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., Mike showed steadfast dedication to the Salisbury Presbyterian Church in Midlothian, Va., serving as a member of the chancel choir, the SPC Foundation Board, outreach programs and the music academy, where he was also a student.
Much of Mike’s labor and leisure time was devoted to the management and maintenance of Mestak, the family farm in Appomattox, where trees were grown, views were enjoyed and memories were made. He also enjoyed reading and playing piano, tennis, pickleball and golf.
