She is survived by her husband, Clarence; sisters, Judith Johnston and Katherine McCollum; and daughter, Stephanie Fox. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter William Pickett and Harriette Pickett (White); her sister, Virginia H. Pickett; and her son, Donavon C. Fox.
She was born in Arlington, VA on January 8, 1945. Mary Ellen always had a warm smile for friends and strangers. She was a wonderful grandmother who could not have loved her grandchildren more. She was given the spirit animal of flamingo by a grandson, which became the nickname “Mingo” that she was happy to use. She shared a birthday with her favorite singer Elvis Presley, wore the most festive Christmas sweaters, earrings and hats, and was a life-long fan of the Washington football team that she continued to call the Redskins (we will give her a pass as old habits are hard to break).
We are already missing her phone calls, really long hugs, and telling each of us that we were her favorites. We take comfort that she is reunited up above with her son Donavon who we also miss deeply. She will always be held dearly in our hearts.
