She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lee Hill of Chesterfield; mother, Thelma Tinsley Tate; father, Joseph Woody Tate; three sisters, Audrey Tate Barker of Chesterfield, Barbara Tate Lohr of Puyallup, WA, and Laura Tate Watson of Buford, GA; five brothers, Merrill W. Tate of Glen Allen, Clinton W. Tate of Glen Allen, Vernon D. Tate of Ashland, Gerald Darwin Tate of Ashland, and Shirley Laverne Tate of Ashland. She is survived by a brother, Keith Wayne Tate of Colonial Heights; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Saunders Tate (Gerald) of Ashland; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Mrs. Hill spent a long career at Reynolds Metal Co. in Chesterfield, including becoming the first female supervisor for a Reynolds plant, before retiring in 1988. Growing up on a farm, she spent her life as an avid gardener which led to a love of beekeeping during her post retirement years and enjoyed raising animals, including goats and dogs.
Family and friends can gather 4-6 p.m. Sun. Dec. 15, 2024, at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel and a graveside service will follow noon Monday Dec. 16 at Westhampton Memorial Park.
Due to family and friends battling Alzheimer’s over the years, Mrs. Hill was an avid supporter in the fight of this disease. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association https://act.alz.org.
