Born in Charlotte, NC, on September 1, 1936, Dick was a caring husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. After serving in the United States Navy, he settled in Richmond, Virginia, where he lived for over sixty years.
Dick was a thoughtful businessman, a lover of history, a dedicated servant, a skilled player of racquet sports, a fan of playing cards with friends, and a voracious reader. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Taylor, and his son-in-law, Tom Gruenther, and is survived by Harriett, his devoted wife of 64 years. Dick’s memory will live on through Harriett, as well as through their daughters Peggy, Edie (alongside her husband Chris), and Sarah. His grandchildren Jay, Robbie (and his wife Nicole), Kristen (and her husband Rochak), Caitlin, Max (and his wife Sig), Zach, and Elizabeth (and her wife Jen) will miss him greatly, as will his great-grandchildren, Brayden, Bryson, Vinny, Owen, Theo, Aislin, Molly, Ruth, Caleb, Collins, Ari, and Grace.
The family lovingly and privately remembered Dick following his passing, recounting fun stories about his firm handshake, his acumen at washing dishes, his appetite for nuts of all kinds, his skill at sports and board-games, his prolific naps, his financial savvy, and his gentle tenderness with his loved ones. His legacy of kindness, responsibility, and service will live on through those who knew him. He will be loved and remembered always.
