Carpenter, Dr. James Venton, 84, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2021. A graduate of the Ohio State University School of Dentistry, he later enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a Lieutenant on the USS Navarro during the Vietnam War. Following this, he worked as a pediatric dentist at the Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and later the Clinic Director, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, at the Medical College of Virginia.
James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sara Louise Carpenter; two children, Kathleen (Wayne) Duty and Kristin (Bobby) Hopkins; grandchildren Tyler Duty, Jordan (John) Keller, and Holli and Kate Hopkins, and sister, Virginia (Dean) Hodgkiss. James was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Carpenter. He was a strong man of faith who loved his church, his family and his country.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 21, 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m.
