Doris Dodson Hurst

Doris Dodson Hurst left this life on August 3rd, 2018, after a long cruel struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Doris was born in Lorton, Virginia March 5th, 1930, to Lillian Estelle Limerick and Warren McLane Dodson. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and attended art classes at the Corcoran before enrolling in the Johnston Willis School of Nursing, graduating in 1951. She met her future husband, John Dulany Hurst at Virginia Beach, and they married in 1953. After raising four children, she resumed nursing at Westbrook Psychiatric Hospital. To all who knew her she was a kind and generous spirit, interested in the arts, music, poetry, literature and gardening. She is survived by four children, Robin Hanway, Roger, Jamie and Winston Hurst, and 4 grandchildren: Will, Natalie, Taylor and Madison. The family wishes to thank Home Helpers, and in particular Grace King, for their kind and steady support, Lorna Ladigohon, and special friend Gay Fraser. The memorial service will be held at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home on August 25th, 2018, at 3:00 pm, followed by a reception at the family’s house. In lieu of flowers, Doris requested that a donation in her name be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
