Part 1
My name is Carme Barsotti, I was born a Vossler. My Father was Don’s brother. Don would really appreciate me taking the time to explain to you, that he was the much younger brother. My Father was nine years older than my Uncle.  One famous memory that my Uncle would share about growing up with my Dad refers to them going Christmas shopping together when Don was young. My Father was named after my grandfather, with both of them having the same name, my Dad had the nic-name of bud. All of the family referred to my Dad as bud. On the day that they were shopping together they were waiting at a street corner while a police officer was directing traffic. When it came time for my Uncle and Father to cross the street, the police officer looked at my Dad and said “Okay Bud, you can cross now”.  My Uncle could hardly wait to arrive home so he could tell my grandmother, his Mom, that the police officer knew my Dad by name.

One of my first memories of my Uncle Don was at a USC football game. If you knew Don you were probably very aware that he enjoyed cheering on his Almamater USC. My uncle and my grandparents were season ticket holders to the SC games. When I was fairly young we would occasionally join them attending a home football game. At this particular game as we were walking from the game and to my shock and horror, my Uncle placed ice down my back.  As a young child I was amazed by this behavior out of an adult.  But that was my uncle, always interjecting fun into situations. Each year my grandmother had us all over for Christmas Eve. It was Don who was always the first to join us kids on the floor, while we waited for the ever so slow adults to finish dinner prior to opening Christmas presents. He made the interminable wait manageable as he played with us.

Part 2
Don was very lovable and enjoyable to be with. When I married, my husband easily fell in love with spending time with Don and later so did my three children. One summer my husband and I were able to spend 52 days driving across the United States. Half way through the trip we stopped and stayed several days with Don and Sandy. It was great to see my Uncle with my own kids and to watch them to be showered in special Uncle Don love. One of my girls on hearing about the passing of Don told me that was probably the highlight of the trip for her, when we stayed with Sandy and Don.  I know they have very special memories of him. 
If you look up on Google maps, the distance from my house to my Aunt and Uncle’s home  is 2749 miles. My uncle had an amazing way of making me feel loved, valued and cared for across those 2749 miles.  He would frequently remind me of a saying of my Grandmother Ruth had, “Don’t be mad, you will just have to get glad again.” Don always had a positive outlook on life. When my Dad was challenged with a health crisis eleven years ago, outside of my husband it was Don that I called and talked to for many hours. And then after my father passed away four years ago, Don frequently called me, saying “I told your Dad I would look after his girls. So I am calling to check up on you. How are you?”

Part 3
 My whole life Don has taught me, not just with his words but in his actions. I learned from him that family is important.  Be loyal, love, and respect your spouse and at the same time sprinkle it all with humor.  Love your children fiercely and give them grace and understanding.  Love, be available and be cheer leaders for your grandchildren and great grandchildren. Be a volunteer and do for others. Losing my Uncle  honestly has left a whole in my heart. 
To Don and Kelly thank you for sharing your Dad with me. 
In the 1900’s the saying, “behind every great man is a great woman” began to gain popularity. I have no knowledge whether the saying is politically correct any more but my Uncle was a great man and along side of him was my Aunt Sandy and they were a great team together.

When Rich and I moved to Tarrington in 2011 we quickly found out that if you had a question about Tarrington he was the man to go to. It seemed like he knew everything and everyone! … and he was always eager and willing to lend a helping hand. He and Sandy became wonderful friends. We enjoyed many an evening playing cards. The men against the women. Rich will miss his partner. We are so glad we actually took the trip to Nashville that we kept talking about. We had so much fun just driving there.  The brewery we happened on, breakfasts at IHop, walking thru Franklin, TN, and culminating with out stop at Buc-ee’s.

Don, you will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know you. Your smile, charm, humor and caring heart.  Marion and Rich Kurila

Sandy, Trish and I are so sorry to hear of Don’s passing and sorry we are not in Richmond to attend his memorial service. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Just returned from Don’s memorial service. Sorry that Sharon was not able to attend. The service was so uplifting. We did not know Don very well, but every time we talked with him he made us feel like we did and that he knew us! Certainly sounded like Don loved life, family, friends, and his Lord. We will be remembering you and your family in our thoughts & prayers.

Lisa and I are were in disbelief when we heard of Don's passing.  We had visited him in the hospital just the morning before and his spirits and optimism were encouraging to us.  We surely thought that we would see him home in just a few days.
Don and Sandy live next door to us.  Although we have only known them for a little over 3 years, we bask in the friendship they both have extended to us.  When Don and I discovered that we shared the same alma mater, a kinship bloomed.  We would often text each other during USC football games, projecting what was wrong with the team and how to fix it.  I feel that Sandy is just as rabid about the team as we are.  Touchdowns were celebrated with flashing lights into the windows of each others homes.
Our new community has lost a true advocate and friend.  Our thoughts and prayers extend to the entire family.  We will continue to look out for Sandy with open arms and open hearts.

I have had the distinct pleasure of being Don's next-door neighbor for the last three years, yet I feel like I have known him forever.   He was friendly, kind, and a joy to talk to, and always pleasant.  I had to tap his knowledge on several occasions, and he was always eager to help me.  I feel like I hit the jackpot when I moved to the Grove and got to know Don and Sandy and have them live so close. 
Don promised me a walk when he came home from the hospital but instead he is walking in heaven and watching over his family and friends.  Rest in peace Kiddo (one of Don's favorite words).

Our neighborhood would not be what it is today without Don.  His experience and knowledge of Associations from his time at Terrington was so helpful. He knew everyone we needed to call at the beginning of our association 3 years ago.  He delivered for us a management company, Stellar, a lawyer, multiple service companies.  There wasn't anything Don wasn't knowledgeable about running associations.  Without his expertise we wouldn't be where we are today.   His monthly calls to me to review what we needed to do in the beginning was great.  I didn't have any experience as an association President and he certainly did.  His advice kept us moving in the right direction for sure.   He became a very good friend and one I cherished learning from him.  Our whole community lost a great friend and he will be missed much.

Our hearts are filled with memories of all the fun times we had together over the past 20 years.  We cherish all that his friendship meant to both of us.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Sandy and the family at this time.

always be in our hearts and prayers and truly missed! I will always remember when I would call and he
would address me as Miss Janet! Made one feel younger.  You both were very welcoming to us when we moved into Tarrington almost 13 years ago! Thank you!

It was my privilege to know Don for 20 or so of his 83 years.  My first connection with Don was as a fellow board member of the HOA, where as President, he fostered a positive environment and guided the board in making decisions than made the neighborhood a better place to live.

In a more personal way, Jane and I spent hundreds of hours during the past many years in playing cards with Sandy and Don. He always displayed an unmatched exuberance, accompanied by a deep belly laugh, when he produced the last card required to win the hand.  He relished in teasing the ladies with delicious comments of why they could not win, and I wholeheartedly supported each and every playful comment. Later, after playing the last hand, we would have dinner at a myriad number of restaurants and invariably, the owner, waitress or a fellow diner, would stop by the table to say hi to Don and Sandy; the man knew no strangers.

Lastly, and most importantly, Don was, and will always remain my friend.

Sandy I just read this in the Tarrington Facebook page and I am so truly sorry for your loss . I wish I could have met “Pollywogman”  Please let me know if you need anything . I am sure this does not seem real. You are surrounded by wonderful friends and family .  Cherish all those memories that you shared for over 60 years . My heart is with you and your family 💕

I still can't wrap my head around the thought that you are gone. I kick myself for not getting back for a visit with you and Sandy. I don't know anyone with a bigger heart than you, or who expressed more joy and love of life than you.  I will remember your smile and laugh forever. Thank you for welcoming me to the family so many years ago.  You will be forever missed. Until we meet in Heaven... Sandy Vossler (Not the younger, just the Colorado Sandy Vossler 😉💔)

Gone too soon. We will all miss him terribly. To know him was to love him. Blessed to have shared our lives with him for at least these three years. We know he is resting with our Heavenly Father. Our thoughts and prayers for Sandy and all his family. Colin and Karin Wood-Bradley
