With heavy hearts, the Archuleta Family announces the passing of their beloved Christine, the light of their lives. Dr. Christine Frances Archuleta was born on October 6, 1990, in Richmond, VA, and died at St. Mary’s Hospital on January 17, 2022, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Christine is survived by her parents, Drs. Bob and Felice Archuleta of Midlothian, VA, her brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Elena Archuleta of Salem, SC, and her adored Jack Russell Terrier, Ziti. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Ben and Frances Archuleta of Green River, WY, and Henry and Palma Cerquone of Rochester, NY. In her all too short life, Christine was loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Christine graduated from St. Michael’s Episcopal School and Trinity Episcopal High School in Richmond, VA. She continued her education at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated from Honors Carolina with a degree in Chemistry in 2013. Before entering medical school, Christine earned a Master’s of Science in Biomedical Science at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, in 2017. In May 2021, Christine graduated with distinction from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, DC, where she was selected as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honors Society and Kane-King Obstetrical Honors Society. Christine was excited to start her OB/GYN residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, this spring.
In addition to her academic interests, Christine enjoyed running, hiking, gardening, soccer, and basketball. She was always up for a night of board games and looked forward to the family Christmas scavenger hunt, which fueled her passionate, competitive spirit. Christine was an avid home chef who cooked for family and friends and explored various cultures through cuisine and her many travels. She loved listening to music, adding to her vinyl collection, and discovering new artists at local venues.
Interment will be private for the immediate family. Christine will be honored at a memorial celebration of her life at a later date. The family is grateful for the medical care provided by the many physicians, nurses, and other personnel who treated Christine over these difficult months. For those interested in honoring Christine, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Noah’s Children Pediatric Hospice were dear to her heart.
