May Bell Copeland passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012 in Midland, Texas. She was born on September 21, 1927 to Joe and Mittie Cowart in Abilene, Texas. She married J. C. Copeland on May 8, 1943. May Bell always thought that her greatest accomplishments in life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She devoted her life to her family and always opened her door to many friends, and always to any family members. She was a faithful, long-time member of Kelview Heights Baptist Church of Midland.
She was a room mother and a PTA president for many years at West Elementary in Midland. She was very involved in any type of sports or activities that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in. She was head score keeper and in charge of concessions when her sons played Little League Baseball in Midland.
May Bell was preceded in death by her beloved husband J.C. Copeland, both of her parents, one sister, two brothers, and a son-in-law.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Linda and husband, Bill Owen of Miller Grove, Texas; son, Jackie and wife, Pam Copeland of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Karen Hendrix; son, Terry and wife, Carolyn Copeland; son, Roger and wife, Shelly Copeland; son, Coyet and wife Julie Copeland, all of Midland, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jeff and wife, Melanie Copeland of Grand Prairie, Texas; Todd and wife, Phyliss Swaim of Arlington, Texas; Ami and husband, Adam Jones of Dallas, Texas; Chris and wife, Calley Copeland of San Antonio, Texas; Sarah and husband, Dusty Burger of Midland, Texas; Laura Copeland of Dallas, Texas; Paige, Kyle, and Ryan Copeland all of Midland, Texas; and great-grandchildren: Curt and Hayley Copeland of Grand Prairie, Texas; Mason and Mallory Burger of Midland, Texas; and one brother, Donnie and wife, Thelma Cowart of Milton, Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be May Bell’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and Bobby Lee of Midland, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Home Hospice, The American Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice. Special thanks to Paula Telford and the staff at Hospice Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital for all their kindness during our mother’s illness.
Family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, January 13, 2012 at 1:00pm at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home of Midland, Texas.
