Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral Services have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Belleview Baptist Church, Midland, with Pastor Myron Unruh officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Pallbearers to be: Bill Hancock, Pete Newman, H. Hill Glover, Bill Woodruff, Jim Merrill and Manuel Arellano. The family requests memorials to be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
Lavon Conaway Hancock was born in Westbrook, Texas on June 13, 1928 to Dalton and Nellie Conaway. After graduating from high school in Westbrook and then from Draughn’s Business School in Abilene, Texas, she moved to Midland, Texas to work for Shell Oil Company and Ralph Lowe, an independent oil operator. While working in Midland she met and fell in love with Andrew (Andy) Hancock, and they married in Midland on April 8, 1948. Lavon and Andy lived in Midland; Denver, Colorado; Parma, Michigan; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; San Antonio, Texas and finally back home to Midland. Lavon enjoyed traveling around the world with Andy, meeting people, showing antique cars, watching her children show horses, cattle and sheep, and watching and being with her beloved husband and children. Lavon and Andy were Charter Members of Belleview Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, friend, and most of all a great Christian lady, who was loved, admired, and respected by all who knew her. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Dalton and Nellie Conaway; her husband, Andy Hancock; an infant son, James Michael Hancock; a grandson, Seth Michael Hancock; a great grandson, Jackson Grey Garner; and a brother, William Conaway.
Lavon Hancock was survived by her three children and their families: (1) son, Gerald Andrew (Jerry) Hancock and wife, Melinda, grandson, Andrew Hancock, III and wife, Maria and a great granddaughter due in October, grandson, Sean Wesley Hancock and a step-grandson Robert Blake Anderson; (2) son, Phillip Adrian Hancock and wife, Tonya, grandson, Phillip Nathan Hancock, grandson, Casey Miles Hancock, granddaughter, Ashley Sheree Marburger and husband, Clint, great granddaughter, Jayden Marburger, and a great granddaughter due in August, and a step-granddaughter, Jessica Lee Lundquist and husband Bryan; and (3) daughter, Linda Lavon Hancock Schmalz and husband, Chris, grandson, John Clayton Garner and wife, Robin, great granddaughter, Stella Marin Garner, granddaughter, Kesha Lavon Garner Smith and husband, Dustin, great granddaughter, Ketta Lavon Smith, great granddaughter, Keelan Drew Smith, and step-grandsons, Calvin Schmalz, and Kade Schmalz and wife, Leah.
Lavon was also survived by brother, Travis Conaway and wife, Jo, niece, Laura Beth Conaway and her children, Dakota Bradbury and Dalton Bradbury; sister-in-law, Margaret Conaway and nephews, Gregory and wife, Debbie, and Jeffery Conaway and wife Angela.
Also surviving Lavon are her husband’s brother, Curtis Hancock; and nephews and nieces, Margie Hancock Sagrillo Newman and husband, Pete, Robert Sagrillo, Michael Sagrillo, Anthony Sagrillo; Bill Hancock and wife, Debbie, Cody Hancock and Shawn Hancock; James Curtis Merrill, Stephanie Merrill Knoels and Tiffany Merrill Ketzle; and numerous other great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express its appreciation for the care and attention over the last several years by Dr. Michael Miller and Dr. John McKenna and, in particular, the attention and care by Dr. McKenna and the entire nursing staff of the Critical Care Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital during her recent stay. Everyone was quite outstanding and very loving and caring to Lavon and our families. Further, we wish to thank Amelia for being a special and attentive friend to Lavon while she resided at Manor Park.
