She was a cherished “Honey” to eight grandchildren. Honey had the loudest house on the block when family got together. Holidays were magical and festive, filled with Honey’s wonderful cooking (complimented by her daughters’ cooking talents), football, children playing inside and out, and laughter that trickled down into your soul. Everyone was welcome at Honey’s house, and everyone who entered felt love the entire time they were around.
Honey was loving and kind and danced into your life as easily as if she were dancing into a room, which she often did. Honey was just as stubborn as she was loving, a trait she passed to each one of her children, and it certainly filtered down successfully into each generation. Her daughters were often referred to as “the Iron Bluebonnets” by relatives, and it fit. She was very strong-willed, but you have to be when you are the matriarch of a tribe.
Honey carried with her the tragic losses of siblings, spouses, children and grandchildren. Out of this grew the legacy that she leaves for each of us: let your love be greater than your circumstance. Honey left this world knowing she was going home to her Father in Heaven. Heaven was filled with a long receiving line as she passed through those gates, and we rejoice in the promise of eternity while mourning from here.
Laura leaves behind a beautiful army of family who celebrate her life on this earth: her brother Jerry Lands (Sarah); daughters Becky McWhirter, Pat Tucker (Don), Marjorie Canon (Jim); son Tony Thompson; son-in-law Wayne Johnson; grandchildren: Laura Davis (Natalie), Jason Johnson (Lisa), Maggie Cappadonna (Michael), Adam Gonzales, Andrew Gonzales, Jessica Clegg (Joe); 14 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, and a large, wonderful array of nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved deeply.
Everyone who met Laura loved her unwaveringly, and they were loved back just as fiercely. Her laughter filled your soul, and her hugs were deep and genuine. Heaven is brighter and the world is a little darker with her passing, but if you look at the faces of her family, her light shines in our eyes. We are her legacy.
A celebration of life for Lauragene will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Ellis Funeral Home.
