Emory Wade Parrott, 89, of Midland passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. He was born August 2, 1921, in Cumberland County, Virginia to Emory B. and Nemmie Ligon Parrott. He grew up in Charlottesville, VA . He attended the University of Virginia, where he was a member of Sigma Xi Scientific Honor Society and received a BS and MS in Geology. He served as an officer in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was assigned to the 9th Photo Tech Squadron in the Pacific Theatre. Immediately upon his return, he married the love of his life, Rosalie Anne Hamlin, on September 15, 1946. He began his career as a geologist with D & E Petroleum in Abilene, TX, in January 1948. They moved to Midland in 1957 with Champlin Petroleum. He retired from Anadarko at age 67. He was active in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the West Texas Geological Society.
Emory was instrumental in founding the Midland Association for Retarded Citizens and the Opportunity Center. He worked tirelessly for many years including serving as a Trustee and Board Member for The Permian Basin Centers for MHMR and the Parents Association of the Lubbock State School.
He was a devoted Christian and attended St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He was an instrumental part of the Christian Faith Mission in Midland and the Midland Community Bible Study for many years.
He is preceded in death by his son, Wade Parrott.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne, of Midland, his daughters, Peggy Aguirre & husband Augusto of Portland, TX, and Nan Sansone & husband James of Arlington, TX, his grandchildren, Christine Mendoza & husband Rudy, Jason & Matt Sansone, and great-grandson, Diego Mendoza. He is also survived by his sister, Nancye Rosenkranz of Alexandria, VA, and many nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2011, at Ellis Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Lynn Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the entire staff of the Younger Alzheimer Unit at Manor Park. Their loving care of Emory and support of his family made his final journey home a blessing.
