Don Franklin Roderick passed away on September 6, 2012 at the age of 76 after a brief illness. He was born in Midland, Texas on September 5, 1936 to parents Eugene Field Roderick and Dorothy Manning Roderick. He went to Midland High School graduating in 1954. He was the equipment manager for the MHS football team which began his lifelong love of Friday night lights in West Texas. He attended Texas Tech and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. He began his working career as a scout for Williams and Lee and eventually became a commercial realtor which he remained until his death. He was an active member of the Midland Jaycees from 1962 to 1973 even being President of the Jaycee’s in 1968 and serving on the state level. He was very proud to be the first Realtor to be President of the Planning and Zoning Commission in the 1970’s. In 1980, Don moved to Houston to serve as Vice President of Exploration and Production for Southwest Petrochem. When the oil business busted, he returned home to Midland in 1984 and worked for A-1 Sign Engravers eventually returning to Real Estate. Don never hesitated to share his opinion with anyone willing to listen. Don is survived by his son, Ricky Roderick and wife Laura of Midland; daughter Terri Bippert, husband Shane; grandchildren Faith and Spencer Bippert all of Midland; sister Dorothy Strickland of Midland and brothers Larry Roderick, wife Diana of College Station, TX and Rodney Roderick wife, Johnnie of Azle, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Dorothy Roderick. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Ellis Funeral Home between the hours of 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2012 in the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel.
