Catherine McDaniel

Catherine McDaniel, 92, of Midland, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2012. Catherine was born to Charles W. Swanger and Margaret Katherine Crank Swanger on December 30, 1919, in Lost Prairie, Texas. Catherine married the late Hugh “Wahoo” McDaniel on January 12, 1937, and they moved to Midland in 1948 during the Spraberry boom of the late 40s where he operated McDaniel Welding until his death in 1999. She owned and operated several beauty salons during her career in Midland. She was a member of the former Ashbury Methodist Church and a member of the Norman Reed Chapter of the Eastern Star.

She was predeceased by her husband and her sons, Edward Hugh “Wahoo” McDaniel and Carl Dalton McDaniel, her brothers, Carl Swanger and Raymond Swanger, sisters, Mary LeGrand, Mildred Martindale and Bernadine Monroe, and one granddaughter, Michelle McFarland Griffin.

Catherine is survived by her two daughters, Margaret White of Midland and Dana Erdmann and husband, Tom Erdmann, of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren, Clayton White and wife, Salita White, of Midland, Kelly Ross and husband, Steve Ross, of Justin, Texas, Stayc Watson and husband, Keith Watson, of Conroe, Texas, and Zack McDaniel of Panama City, Florida, Cindi Blank of Rowlett, Texas, and Nikki Rowe of Cypress, Texas. She is survived by ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 18, 2012, at 1:00 PM at Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
