Carol June James was born on September 3, 1943 in McCamey, Texas, to George and Clydene Wolfrum, the second of three daughters. She passed away on December 19, 2019.
Mom had a love of art and earned an art degree from San Angelo State. She worked various jobs after college until discovering a new passion when she started work as a licensed vocational nurse. She went back to school in the early 1970s with the help of her parents, earned a nursing degree and became a registered nurse.
After that we moved to Midland, where she started working nights as a telemetry nurse at Midland Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 15 years. Then she worked at Women’s & Children’s for a while before moving back to McCamey to help care for her father, who had Parkinson's, taking a nursing position at McCamey Hospital and eventually becoming the director of the nursing home there, until retiring due to health issues.
She also had a love of cooking and spent many weekends cooking enchiladas with her best friend Irene, having bar-b-ques and potlucks with her neighbors and making Christmas candy with her mom.She never stopped her love of art, painting lots of pictures and doing needlepoint and other craft items over the years.
She is survived by her younger sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Ronnie Gryder of McKinney, Tx, her son Douglas James of Midland, her daughter Le`Anna James-Gay & Joshua of Olympia, Washington, 3 nieces, Melissa & Edwin Kirby of Tyler, Tx; Jana Gryder & Don of Austin, TX ; Janet Hunter & Stewart of Frisco, TX and grandchildren Kennadi, Zack and Alex James of Midland and Brodie and Spencer James-Gay of Olympia.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister Sarah Tucker all of McCamey, Tx
Visitation is Saturday, December 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home, with services on Sunday, December 23, at 11 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. in McCamey at Resthaven Cemetery.
