Amy Mayer Johnson, 49, of Midland, Texas passed away peacefully on July 31, 2010 following a long illness. Amy was born June 15, 1961, in San Angelo, to Martha and Ronald Mayer. Amy spent her early childhood on ranches in New Mexico where her father served as ranch foreman before the family moved to Roswell where she attended public school. She graduated from Goddard High School in Roswell in 1978 where she was active in student council and cheerleading. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Upon graduation, she moved to San Angelo, Texas where she taught school at John Glenn Junior High School. She moved to Midland and married Clay Johnson on July 23, 1988. Amy taught school at Fannin Elementary School and later pursued a successful career in real estate – first for Langston Realtors and later for the Doss Team at Real Estate One. She was an active member of the PTA and Midland Symphony Guild. Amy had a wonderful gift for friendship and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. Amy never met a stranger and saw the potential for friendship in everyone she met. She had a queso ministry – making dozens of quarts of chili con queso each year to share with loved ones in celebration and sorrow. The consummate multi-tasker, Amy could close a complex real estate transaction on a cell phone while driving kids to soccer practice after organizing an army of volunteers to search for a neighbor’s lost dog and somehow manage to host a perfect dinner party for thirty, all before hanging up the phone. And she always closed the deal. Her energy for business was matched by her knack for finding the good in all people, friends and strangers, and anyone who needed help. Her love for family was returned by Suzanne, Ronnie and Martha who loved Amy every minute of her life and serve as an inspiration to all who were blessed to witness such devotion.Amy’s faith enabled her to not only endure the surgeries and treatments but to thrive. Transcending the disease with extraordinary strength she was able to reach her goal of seeing Sarah and Shelby graduate and become lovely young women destined to carry on her tradition of hard work and service to all in need. She is survived by her life’s greatest joys, daughters Sarah and Shelby of Midland; her sister, devoted caregiver, and best friend, Suzanne Mayer of Midland and Horseshoe Bay; and her loving parents, Ronald and Martha Mayer of Roswell, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Vinita and Tom Moore, Juanita and Abe Mayer, Jr. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A. M. Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Curtis Nicholson, Kevin Butler, Trey Robbins, Doug Ferguson, Larry Phillips and John Beckett. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Hospice of Midland, P.O.
