Born in Middletown Ohio on June 13, 1929, and raised in the rolling hills of Kentucky, Delores (who went by Velma in her later years) was partially named for famed movie actress Delores del Rio. She was devoted to her family throughout her life. She adored her four sons and dedicated herself to their upbringing. Even as they grew into adults, her unwavering concern and interest in their lives was a testament to her dedication as a mother.
Delores experienced the profound love of two husbands and often spoke of being blessed to have had two good marriages. She married Robert A. “Bob” Sutton of Middletown in 1951 and together they had one son, Robert H. Sutton. Delores’ first husband Bob tragically passed away in 1958. In 1960, she married Gerhard H. “Jerry” Stoll of Middletown, Ohio. Together they had 3 sons, Craig A. Stoll (Carolyn), Michael W. Stoll (Rhonda), and Matthew W. Stoll. Jerry passed away in 2003.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Ida Mae Ewen (1997) and Ross M. Ewen (1989) as well as her siblings, Ross C. Ewen (1971), Della F. Walgamot (2014), Thomas E. Ewen (2009), and Walter L. Ewen (2006). Delores held a special place in her heart for her own mother, and she cherished every moment spent with her. They spoke nearly every day, often going shopping and to lunch. Delores cared for her mother in her later years after her father died.
Delores is survived by her four sons and her five grandchildren, Abigail Sutton, Thomas Sutton, Hannah Stoll, Michael Stoll, and Sean Stoll, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. They will remember her with many happy memories of summer cookouts, Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings, and birthday celebrations.
In addition to spending time with her family, Delores found great joy in the company of her friends. She spent many hours chatting on the phone or enjoying a summer evening sitting on the neighbor’s porch. She shared being an avid Reds fan with her sister Fran and rarely missed watching a game together on TV.
We invite you to join us in celebrating the life of Delores on June 15, 2023, at Breitenbach Anderson Funeral Home in Middletown Ohio. Visitation will be at noon with funeral service to follow at 1 PM. Together, we will honor Delores’ memory, reflecting on the love she brought into our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice of Cincinnati. They are grateful to Hospice of Cincinnati and the staff of Ohio Living Mt. Pleasant for the care and support both provided in Delores’ final days.
