Donald Eugene Distler passed away on January 15, 2023, at the age of 88 at his home in Middletown, Ohio. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many and will be missed tremendously.
Donald was born in Middletown, Ohio to parents Lloyd Abner and Virginia Hope (Sroufe) Distler on September 27, 1934. He was preceded in death by both parents, wife Nedra Yvonne (Mickey) Krick, sisters Joann Elston and Joyce Ann Distler, daughter Becky Andersen and grandsons Sean and Jason Distler.
Donald lived with his parents in Middletown until the death of his father at the age of 7 at which time he moved to Lewisville to live with his grandparents. He was a 1952 graduate of Lewisville High School. After high school he married Esther Masciarelli. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1954 and trained at Parris Island. He moved back to Middletown in 1955 and worked at ARMCO. He started a drywall business which he worked as a side job. In California, he worked hanging drywall, as a crane operator for Kaiser Steel and owned a Texaco Service Station with his brother Jimmy. He joined the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and worked as a welder. His last position before retirement was as a highly sought after welder working all over the west coast leading a team at various nuclear power plants doing repairs during scheduled shutdowns.
Generous, kind, gracious and steadfast through life, those who knew and loved him enjoyed his quick wit and sense of humor. Donald loved serving and helping others in the community and church. Many have been blessed by his willingness to help in church remodeling, meals and Bible study groups. Along with golf and wood working he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Donald is survived by brother Jimmy Lee (Jennece), sister Beverly (Rex) McIntosh, Allen Andersen, Debi (Mike Hollon) Manning, Don (Sharon) Distler II, Chris (Shelley) Distler, Dave (Angel) Distler. Grandchildren Eric Andersen, Summer Couch, Donnie (Elizabeth) Distler, Stephanie (Lesley) Torsell, Jennifer (Sean) Burke, Brenden Distler, Branden Distler, Breanna Distler, Phillip Distler, Matt (Amanda) Distler and 11 great-grandchildren. Family by marriage to Mickey: sons Dennis (Dana) Dixon and Harry Dixon, grandchildren Pete (Amy) Dixon, Matt (Amy) Dixon, Nicole Dixon, Jennifer Dixon and 9 great-grandchildren plus two great-great grandchildren.
