Beloved husband of the late Sally; loving father of Kelly Lavelle (John) and Christy Hall; grandfather of
Grace and Lauren Lavelle and Tyler and Alexa Hall; brother of Kim Mansell (Jim) and the late Dr. Richard Magovich (Sheila); cousin and uncle of many; brother in law of Linda Whittaker (Roger).
Michael displayed outstanding athletic ability as a child. He was an excellent swimmer and won many medals in the 1950’s at the Greater Cleveland Youth Swimming Championships. At MidPark High School, Mike lettered in baseball, football, track, and basketball. He was heavily recruited for professional baseball (Philadelphia Phillies) and college football. Mike decided to continue his education and play football for Findley College. In his adult years, he played semi-pro basketball and softball. Michael Magovich earned athletic Hall of Fame status from MidPark High School and The Greater Cleveland Slow Pitch League.
Michael was a proud veteran of the US Army. He served in Vietnam on the 1st Medical Battalion of the 1st Infantry Division from 1967-1968. He earned a Bronze Star for valiant service. Michael Magovich displayed courageous actions under intense enemy fire to save a wounded Major from certain death. Mike continued his association with veterans in his adult life. He was a long time member of the American Legion Post 91 (Berea) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW#3345 (Strongsville).
Mike was well loved for his enthusiasm and humor. He was a teamster, part owner of the Berea Tavern, gold miner, sportsman, husband, father, and grand father. Mike was many things, but he was always directed by his credo of “God, family, country”. Graveside service to be announced at a later date
