William Adelbert Ackerman age, 90 of Orange Park, Florida passed away on December 4, 2024. He was born in 1934 to the late Sterling Earle Ackerman and Edris Evelyn (Bliss) in Homeland, Georgia. He graduated from Robert E. Lee Senior High School in 1953. After graduation William Joined the United States Air Force. While stationed in Japan he taught a Sunday School class for the resident missionaries. William and his wife of 67 years were married in 1957. William graduated from The Baptist Bible College of Springfield Missouri in 1960. While there William was the president of the senior class and editor of the year book. William always put God first in his life. He was a teacher and a leader. He gave a sense of purpose and encouragement to everyone. He never met a stranger. He knew a new friend was only a conversation away. William was known to have the gift of gentle persuasion. He was very creative and for many years he directed the Church choir in musicals at Easter, The Fourth of July and Christmas. He loved to decorate the church for these occasions. He was the Director of music and activities for the Senior Adult Victory Class at church. He organized the Pacesetters and among other activities, they would take trips. They traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, New York, Mackinaw Island, Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, Steinhatchee, the Amish country and mystery trips on Saturday.He also had a manufacturing business where he would build puppets for distribution to bookstores, churches and missionaries for the Legacy of Love for the Children's Ministry.
William is survived by his loving and devoted wife Delores Justine Daughtery, children Jeffrey Craig Ackerman, Corey Lee Ackerman and his wife Christine, Gary Alan Ackerman and his wife Sonia, his daughter, Lisa Ackerman Nixon; 11 grandchildren; 6 great- grandchildren; 2 surviving siblings Joanne and Russ and one sibling Verle in heaven, and the First Coast Baptist Church family.
A Celebration of Life will be held, Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 11:00 am at the First Coast Baptist Church located at 7587 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32244. Please join the family for a visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Burial will be at 2:30 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218 in LANE 2.
