Martha Hauser Williams, 85, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Hadlow Center for Caring Hospice Facility in Jacksonville. Born August 1, 1930 to Charles and Onie Hauser in Salisbury, North Carolina, Martha graduated Asheboro High School in 1948, attended Brevard College for one year before transferring to and graduating from East Carolina in 1952 with a B.S. degree in Primary Education. Martha began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Fall 1952 at the Clayton School in Clayton, NC. It was there she met her soul mate and husband of 58 years, James E. Williams. Martha was a June bride in 1956 and moved to Wilmington, NC with James as he began his career with CSX, formerly Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and Seaboard Coastline Railroad. Martha came to Jacksonville with Jim and the railroad in 1960, where she taught elementary school at Woodland Acres and later Parkwood Heights until her retirement in 1986. Martha was a long time member of Parkwood Baptist Church and in recent years was an active member of Fleming Island Presbyterian Church. Martha was a loving wife, mom and grand mommy and will be most remembered for her sweet demeanor, engaging personality and willingness to share her table with anyone who had an appetite. She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Mark and Natalie, Whit and Tricia, and five grandchildren including Jenna, Peyton, Caitlin, Nick and Olivia. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Arthur Williams and James, who passed in June 2014. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2014 at 11 AM at Fleming Island Presbyterian Church located at 1743 County Road 220, Fleming Island, FL 32003. Inurrment will be held 10 AM Friday, October 2, 2015 at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Graveside will be private for the family. Her family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Fleming Island Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Dreams Come True (www.dreamscometrue.org) or Northeast Florida Community Hospice (communityhospice.com).
