John Wesley Duncan, 83, passed away on October 28, 2014. He was born in Waycross, GA and resided in Middleburg for 18 years. Mr. Duncan was a member of First Baptist Church of Middleburg and retired from the US Navy after 26 years of dedicated service. He enlisted in the Navy on June 28, 1948, the same year he graduated high school, only 17 years old. He graduated High school from Waycross Senior High. John delivered the Waycross Journal and Herald Newspapers for approximately 1 1/2 years, worked at a soda fountain and delivered prescriptions for Rye Drug Company in Waycross for about a year. Also, John worked as a doorman and usher at Lyric and Ritz Theatres for a couple years. He was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, deployed on many ships and served in the Vietnam War. After the military John worked for the BSA for 22 years and finally retired from Sears on September 30, 2002. Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Becky; 4 sons: John W. (Linda) Duncan Jr., Mike (Debbie) Duncan, Mark (Jan) Duncan and Jason (Melissa) Largent; 3 daughters: Sheryl (Bobby) Fortenberry, Stephanie (Steve) Cascone and Rachel (Mark) Flores; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, November 3, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Middleburg, 2645 Blanding Blvd, Middleburg with Pastor Ralph Estevez officiating.
