If this is the same Jimmy Ellis Sr. who was a wonderful person I met at Publix #126 in Lehigh Acres in mid 70’s working there. At that time he owned a Freedom Green Honda CB550 which he let me experience riding it for a long period of time  then returning it to his home off Alabama. Which I lived down the street from there. This was my only life experience with a motorcycle afterwards having friends loose their limbs and 2 lost their lives on a few years later. I am extremely appreciative of this time in my life experience Jimmy had provided me.

In September of 2015 my wife and I relocated from Miami after living down there born and raised. To Jacksonville in the Middleburg Florida area, upon arriving we met our wonderful neighbors Susan and Jimmy Ellis we could never ask for a better set of neighbors to welcome you to a neighborhood than Jimmy and Susan. Jimmy was a very meticulous guy that likes stuff done properly and done at the right price he never qualmed about how much he paid as long as it was done right. Jimmy invested his time and his money into my business when I got here after watching me become a employee to couple of companies up here that were slave drivers. Jimmy cared about the fact that I was working so long so many hours and I was making chump change. Jimmy asked me if I was interested in starting my own business cuz he had a lot of confidence that I could do what they were doing and make the money they were making.  I told him I've had my business in Miami for 25 years and I moved up here thinking I was going to work for another company that didn't work out so good.
 Jimmy invested his time in this money into my business and I thank God for that because I have done a lot better since Jimmy helped me move on forward into the next part of my life.
 I lost everything I had in 2008 and I moved here in 2015 starting all over at 56 yrs old and Jimmy gave me that jump start I needed to get on my feet and get myself together and be able to be a father, a husband and provider for my family. I thank Jimmy very much for that. He was like a brother to me.
 My own family is estranged for no reason but their own. I've never done anything wrong, I never done anything to cause them to act that way but sometimes people get so busy they ain't got time to even think you're alive. Jimmy always was very gracious to me very kind very loving and only expected me to be the best that I could be. I will always miss Jimmy tremendously. I loved him as well as I love his lovely wife Susan.  God bless Jimmy and Susan

You were such an amazing man and you became a dad to every kid that walked into your house.  You  and Penny were our parents away from home and we all knew we could go to you for anything any time.  You had so much love for each other and for everyone around you.   While this is a sad day and a great loss  for us I smile knowing you are with Penny and Jimmy Jr  and watching over all of us and of course cheering on your Dolphins from the best seat in the House!   Love you!!!

I worked with Jimmy at old Publix #87 back in the 1970's.
He had high energy, excellent work ethic  and just an all-around good guy.

I met Jimmy through work  and am amazed at the impact he had on my life.  His high work and personal ethics really rubbed off on me.
He was a shining example that God was in his life and that made me a better person also.
He was devoted to his wife, Susan, daughters and granchildren. He talked about them often with much pride in his voice. He loved visiting with them. 
God must have had a special reason for taking Jimmy away from us so soon. He will always be remembered in my heart. 
I offer many prayers for his family.

I had the pleasure of working with Jimmy for a few precious years. I didn’t learn too much about his past, but I what I experienced was a big hearted man who cared deeply about his family and community. Having recently moved to FL he made me feel at ease about getting older and  adjusting to that. He espoused his love for his wife Sue,  their children , and his dog Bailey every day to me. God bless my brother Jimmy . I appreciated and loved the time we had together.

Memorial Service

Jimmy was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Ellis Jr. He is survived by his daughters Sherri and Stacy as well as grandchildren and a great grandson, and his wife Susan and her daughters Sara and Katie. The family would like to thank Haven Hospice and the hospital and care staff that assisted throughout Jimmy’s illness. Also, the many friends and neighbors that assisted the family during this difficult time.
