She was born on June 24, 1935 in Trinity, Kentucky, the daughter of Walter and Mary Pearl (Hughes) Irwin.
Jean was a 1954 graduate of Tollesboro High School. She enjoyed spending her life as a homemaker, raising her children and her grandchildren. When her children were grown she worked at Suttman’s Store in Miamisburg and Rikes Department Store in the fine jewelry department. Jean was a volunteer for many years with the schools and the community center. She was a member of Miamisburg Christian Church where she also taught Sunday School. Jean was an avid seamstress and an enthusiastic thrift shopper.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 71 years, Charles Henderson; son, Kevin (Jayne) Henderson; grandchildren, Ryan Henderson (Kirenia), Emily (Justin) Evilsizor, Jennifer (Zach) Stepp, and Lindsey (Jason) Anderson; great grandchildren, Dylan Kelly Evilsizor, Jordyn Lee Stepp, Charlotte Grace Evilsizor, Wyatt Lewis Stepp, Sawyer Lee Anderson; sister, Shirley Anne Irwin Gilkison; brother-in-law, Lovell (Kathy) Henderson; sisters-in-law, Lois Jean Irwin and Mary Jo Mawk; nieces and nephews, Kimberly Rousey, Kandi Gilkison, Peggy Irwin, Dolores Clark, David Kent Irwin, D’Anna Stekli, and Walter Mawk.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Krista Lee (Rodney) Shephard; son, Kelly Dane Henderson; and her brothers, George Nelson Irwin and Charles Thomas Irwin.
A gathering of family & friends will be held from 12 – 2 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Miamisburg Christian Church. A memorial service will follow at 2 PM with Pastor Mike Tuttle officiating. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Miamisburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
