KUHLMAN, DR. JAMES “JIM” L., AGE 77, OF DAYTON, OHIO PASSED AWAY THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2015 AT HIS RESIDENCE. HE WAS BORN IN DAYTON, OH TO THE LATE LESTER AND MARY (CORNWELL) KUHLMAN. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS BROTHER, JACK KUHLMAN; SISTERS, PHYLLIS KUHLMAN AND LINDA GIESEL; HIS CHILDREN: KRISTEN NOLAN (SCOTT), RYAN, JORDAN AND HALEY KUHLMAN; GRANDSONS, TYLER, DEVIN, AND BRODY NOLAN ALONG WITH MANY LOVED NIECES AND NEPHEWS. JAMES WAS A 1956 GRADUATE OF CHAMINADE HIGH SCHOOL. HE ATTENDED THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, RECEIVING A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE AND DOCTOR OF OPTOMETRY. HE WAS A MEMBER OF EPSILON PSI EPSILON FRATERNITY AND A PAST PRESIDENT. JAMES WAS A WELL RESPECTED OPTOMETRIST IN THE MIAMISBURG AREA FOR OVER 45 YEARS. HE SERVED THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING EYE EXAMS FOR THE LOCAL SCHOOL SYSTEM AND SERVING AS PRESIDENT FOR THE MIAMISBURG LIONS CLUB. HE WAS A MEMBER AND PAST PRESIDENT OF THE MIAMI VALLEY SOCIETY OF OPTOMETRISTS. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE OHIO OPTOMETRIC ASSOCIATION DURING WHICH HE SERVED AS A PAST PRESIDENT, TRUSTEE, AND CO-CHAIR MAN OF SEVERAL COMMITTEES. HE WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN OPTOMETRIC ASSOCIATION, BETTER VISION INSTIUTE, NORTH EAST VISION SERVICE PLAN, (VSP), AND METROPOLITAN INSURANCE LIFE CONSULTANT. DURING HIS LIFE TIME JAMES HAS ALSO RECEIVED NUMEROUS AWARDS AND ACCOLADES SOME OF WHICH INCLUDE STATE OPTOMETRIST OF THE YEAR, SPIRIT OF DAYTON AWARD, US JAYCEES DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD, AND THE OPTOMETIRIST OF THE YEAR AWARD. JAMES WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF FAIRHAVEN COMMUNITY CHURCH FOR OVER 20 YEARS. JAMES FOUND JOY BEING ON THE GOLF COURSE,CHEERING ON HIS BELOVED OHIO STATE BUCKEYES, SPENDING TIME WITH “THE GROUP” A CARD CLUB OF 50 YEARS, IN ADDTION TO SPENDING AS MUCH TIME WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE. FAIRHAVEN COMMUNITY CHURCH WILL HOST A BRIEF GATHERING AND MEMORIAL SERVICE BEGINNING 12:00 PM SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2015 AT 637 EAST WHIPP ROAD, CENTERVILLE, OH 45459. THE MEMORIALSERVICE WILL FOLLOW AT 1:00 PM. ADDITIONALLY, A CELEBRATION OF LIFE AT PIPESTONE GOLF CLUB, 4344 BENNER ROAD IN MIAMISBURG FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS FROM WILL BE HELD 3:00 – 6:00PM WITH A SHORT MEMORIAL TO FOLLOW BEGINNING AT 6:00 PM.
