It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jose "Pepin" M. Garcia on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. Pepin passed away surrounded by his beloved wife Tania and their three children, Karina, Tania and Jose II. He was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather.
Born in Santiago de Cuba on October 4th, 1943 to Edilberto Garcia and Esther Perez, Pepin was one of nine children. He fled Cuba to Miami in October of 1963, leaving all family and possessions behind. His strong will and tenacity allowed him to persevere. In 1966, Pepin met the love of his life, Tania, on a blind date in New Jersey. While newlyweds, Pepin attended St Peter's College and graduated with an Industrial Engineering degree in May of 1971. Within two and half years, Pepin and Tania were married. Together, they raised 3 children: Karina, Tanita and Pepincito.
Pepin is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Tania, his three children and his four grandchildren (Gabi, Jochy, Carolina and Marco), who hope to continue his legacy for many years. His son-in-laws, Lazaro and Alejandro, as well as daughter-in-law, Annie, continue to be a strong and supportive presence in the life of his family. Pepin is also survived by his seven remaining siblings, Graciela, Emidgio (Rosie), Georgina, Edmundo (Yolanda), Elena, Francisco (Gladys) and Rafaela as well as many nieces and nephews. Pepin was predeceased by both his parents, older brother, Edilberto "Papi" Garcia, sister-in-law Onilda Garcia and brother-in-law's Jose "Pepito" Perez and Guillermo Navarro.
Pepin was always a giving person who always shared whatever he had with others. Hard-working, loving and generous, he always looked for ways to help others as a dedicated member of the Kiwanis of Little Havana. His patriotism for Cuba was never-ending. During his down time, you would find him cheering at his granddaughter's dance competitions or his grandson's tournaments. He found his greatest happiness in making the people he loved happy - his family, his children, grandkids, and his beloved wife. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for Pepin is planned for Wednesday, August 24th from 6pm to 9pm at the Caballero Rivero Funeral Home, located at 8200 Bird Road, Miami, 33155, FL. All are invited to attend. On August 25th, a mass at 11am at the Church of the Epiphany will be followed by burial at 1pm. Jose will be laid to rest next to his father and several other family members at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery, located at 11411 NW 25th Street. Doral, Florida, 33172.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that donations be made to the Baptist Health Foundation''s Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute at https://baptisthealthgiving.net/Foundation/donatenow.
