Howard Kleinberg was the last editor of the Miami News. In 1949 he started covering sports for the News while still in high school. Over the next 40 years, he served as Executive Sports Editor, News Editor, Managing Editor, Executive Editor and Editor.
Since the News closed at the end of 1988, he has written columns for Cox Newspapers which appeared all over the world, a series of history columns for the Miami Herald and nine books, all based on Miami history. He has been a member of Orange Bowl Committee since 1980.
A graduate of Miami High School and a Korean War veteran, he lived in Miami with Natalie, his wife of 70 years. Their extensive travels have taken them to 83 countries.
He is survived by Natalie and children Linda Kleinberg Landy (Howard), Eliot Kleinberg (Debra), Eileen Kleinberg Newmark (Howard) and David Kleinberg (Tricia.) He had nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service for Howard will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Temple Beth Am, 5950 N Kendall Drive, Pinecrest, FL 33156.
