George Paul Gremer, Jr., born on December 29, 1928 to Mabel and George P. Gremer, Sr., died peacefully at his home on December 3, 2018. His mother named him “Corky” after the popular cartoon character from Gasoline Alley who was also born the same year. Corky Gremer spent over 40 happy years with his wife, Sara Acosta Gremer, and loved to tell his family the story of how he met this beautiful woman from Cuba.
Corky lived most of his life in Miami and many of those years in the coral rock home built by his grandfather in the Helms subdivision established in his name. He was a graduate of Miami Senior High School and the University of Florida (UF). After graduating from UF in 1951, he served in the U.S. Army. He served over 20 years as a National Guardsman in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring as a disabled veteran.
He is survived by his only brother Charles Gremer; two daughters and three sons- Elise (Greg), Laura (Sheldon), Bruce (Erica), Stephen (Samantha), and John (Crissa); 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Corky proudly told his friends of his love for his family and how he blessed he was.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Caballero Rivero - Little Havana, 3344 SW 8th St, Miami, Florida 33135. Following the visitation will be a burial at 1:15 PM at Miami Memorial Park, 6200 SW 77th Ave, Miami, Florida 33413.
