Felix Ruben Martinez was born in The Bronx, New York on January 5, 1957 at 5:55 in the morning. From humble beginnings, he learned to hustle and hone his street-smart skills and enjoyed dancing and playing stick ball, beginning a love for both people and sports that lasted to this day.
In 1978, while working as a mailroom manager at Banco Urquijo, he met and eventually married Jenny Martinez. Together, they happily welcomed their sons, Andre Alexander in 1982 and Felix Ruben Jr. in 1986.
He worked as a facilities manager for Drexel Burnham Lambert on Wall Street in the 1970’s and 80’s, but seeing growth opportunities down south, he moved his family to Miami in 1989.
Soon, he was working in real estate for Lennar Homes where he stayed for over 20 years, quickly awarded and recognized for his incredible sales and work ethic. Felix never believed in giving up and was known for being jovial, easy to talk to, and considerate. He was warm and had a special knack for making everyone feel comfortable, appreciated, and welcomed - qualities that made him successful with both homes and people.
Felix never forgot where he came from and would often take the family on cheerful road trips to New York and rooting for his favorite New York teams - the Yankees, the Giants, the Knicks. He was so fond of sports, he joined various leagues himself, playing baseball, softball, and bowling. As his sons grew, each week he took them to little league and cheered them on from the stands and early on, instilled a fondness for watching classic movies and listening to ‘70’s soul music.
Felix went through his life a proud Puerto Rican, a tough New Yorker, a loving husband, and generous father. He leaves behind a reputation for being a strong mentor, a competitive hard worker, and a sympathetic provider who always strived to improve the lives of those he loved.
Felix Martinez passed away on October 9, 2020 at 9:09 pm, in his wife’s arms, at the age of 63 from health complications.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jenny Martinez, two sons, Andre and Felix Jr., his sister Evelyn, nieces Lina and Lissette, daughter Melissa, and two grandchildren Cassius and Cruz.
