Thomas (Tommy) O. Booth, Sr. was born on October 25, 1939 and passed away on February 05, 2023 at the age of 83
Tommy is survived by his wife of 59 1/2yrs, Virginia Drake Booth of St. Simons Island, GA, his daughter, Teri Booth-Fish (Danny) and he was preceded in death by his son, the late Thomas (Tommy) Booth, Jr. He was also grandpa to Brandon and Nick and pawpaw to great grandson Aiydan. Tommy is the grandson of the late Otis and Emma Booth and the son of the late Edna P. Nugent (Liver) of Esperance, NY and the late Oakley G. Booth (Winnie) of Saratoga Springs, NY. He is also the son-in-law of the late Iris Drake of Pleasantville, NY and the late George W. Drake from Bath, NY. Tommy is the brother-in-law of the late David G. Drake (Shirley) of St. Simons Island, GA.
Tommy was born in Saratoga Springs, NY. At 14, he moved to Brunswick, GA with his dad. At 17, he enlisted into the United States Navy. At 21 he got out of the Navy and then he worked odd jobs until he went into the Merchant Marines. He was only in the Merchant Marines for 2yrs and went back to St. Simons Island, GA. At 22, he met Virginia Drake through his best friend David Drake. They got married in 1963 and moved to New Orleans.
He was working at the Governor House as a Air Conditioning Tech. While he was there he went to Delgado College at night for 3yrs to get his degree as a Air Condition Service Engineer. In 1966, he went to work for Shephard Sales and Service. He was there till 1979, then decided he wanted a change so he took his family and moved to Jacksonville, FL then onto Keystone Heights, FL. In 1982, he moved his family back to New Orleans. He started working for Martin Marietta. He worked there till 1993. After working at Martin Marietta, he would do odd jobs always looking for the big 62 so he could retire.
In 2016, he had a stroke and never really came back from that. He was in and out of the hospital for multiple things. But on January 26, 2023, he went to the hospital because he was having a hard time breathing which with COPD made breathing very difficult. On February 3, 2023, nothing seemed to be helping so he was put on hospice and sent home. He was home less than 24 hours when he passed away from respiratory failure and bacterial pneumonia.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial gathering at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Saturday, February 25, 2023 beginning at 11:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home's chapel with Pastor Jack Boudreaux officiating. The Patriot Guard, Military Honor Guard and the Masons will also be present to render honors. A private interment will be held for the family at Garden of Memories.
