Patricia Miller Martin

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mrs. Patricia Elaine Miller Martin, age 73, on Monday morning, July 12, 2021. Patricia died of complications from liver disease. Though her future was unsure, she fought hard and tried to stay with us as long as her body would allow. Typical of their love, her husband was hand-in-hand with her through every battle and was by her side when she died.

Patricia, "Patti" to those who loved her, was born on July 29, 1947. She married the love of her life, Ronnie J. Martin, on February 24, 1973. Even after 48 years of marriage, Patti and Ronnie still held hands and teased each other like newlyweds.

Patti, first and foremost, was a dedicated and caring mother. She treasured her children and provided love and guidance that was unwavering. Her heart overflowed with joy when she was blessed with grandchildren six times over.

Born to Shirley Callahan Miller and John William Miller Jr., Patti was raised in New Orleans and earned an associate's degree in education. After working as a drafter at Bell South for many years, she spent her 29-year career working at St. Augustine's Episcopal Pre-school, where she touched the lives of hundreds of children. Patti was the kind of teacher kids remembered for life. Students old and new would stop and catch up with "Miss Patti" from the library to the grocery store, anywhere she went. Many of her students brought their children back to St. Augustine so that she could also teach them.

Once retired, her favorite pastime was participating in a book club with her friends. She also volunteered as a Eucharistic minister at Saint Philip Neri and East Jefferson Hospital. Patti truly enjoyed visiting patients and talking with them about their families, hobbies, anything to take their minds off their worries for even a few moments.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Ronnie J. Martin, her two children and their spouses, Stephen and Allison Martin and Shannon and Brice Regling; her six grandchildren, Sophia Martin, Victor Martin, Vivian Martin, Karma Regling, Penelope Regling, and Sabrina Regling; her sister, Vicki Scallan, and her niece, Kaolin “Victoria” Scallan; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Darryl Martin and MaryLou Eichhorn; and her godchildren, Mark Gueho and Danny Callahan. Patti loved her family and their lives were made better by knowing and being loved by her.

Please join us by celebrating her life on Monday, July 19, 2021 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 6600 Kawanee Ave. Metairie, LA 70003. Visitation will be held from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm with a funeral Mass to begin at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Mausoleum.
