Nicholas L. Mistretta, Sr.

On Tuesday, May 3, 2016, Deacon Nicholas L. Mistretta, Sr., age 90, surrounded by his loving family, peacefully left his earthly body to be with the Lord. Deacon Mistretta was a native of Kenner, LA and was a resident of Harahan, LA. Beloved husband of Vera Baio Mistretta for 55 years. Loving father of Nicholas L. Mistretta, Jr. (wife, Cindy). Adoring grandfather of Sara (Josh), Katie (Robbie), Virginia (Jonathan), Jason (Belinda) and Nicole (Donnie). Great grandfather of Ethan, Sophia, Ember, Andrew, Luke, Harper, Blake, Leo and Scarlett. Son of the late Victor Mistretta and Mary Barreca Mistretta. Brother of Anthony “Butsy” Mistretta and the late Leona, Joseph, Sadie, Josephine, Virginia, Salvador, Frank, Louis and Victor. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Deacon Mistretta was a retired manager with the Harahan Post Office. He was a WWII Army veteran and was a Deacon and parishioner of St. Rita Church in Harahan, LA. Deacon Mistretta was a great servant of the Lord in everything he did and was a wonderful example of God’s love. He was cherished by all who knew him for his kind and gentle spirit and will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Rita Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy., in Harahan, LA on Friday, May 6, 2016 beginning at 10:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Ozanam Inn, 843 Camp Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
