Nancy Ritter Farrell was born Friday, February 20, 1948, and passed away on Tuesday, April 25th, 2023. She battled several severe illnesses towards the end of her life and finally succumbed to her ailments. For years, Andrew Joseph Farrell, her husband, stood by her side, caring for her day and night until she was finally at peace. Her final moments were spent surrounded by her family in her home in Metairie, Louisiana.
Nancy was the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth Ritter, who are now deceased. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Andrew Joseph Farrell, along with her daughter, Christine Cruz [Michael Cruz], and her son David Farrell [Leslie Farrell]. Nancy has three beautiful grandchildren, Brian, Connor, and Julia Farrell, who she adored. She is survived by her devoted sisters Doris Steudlein [Irwin Steudlein deceased], Elizabeth Dinu [Bob Dinu deceased], and Jane Kihnel [Carl Kihnel deceased]. She is survived by her caring brother-in-law Frances “Frank” Downey [Janice “Jan” Farrell Downey deceased].
Nancy and Andy met at a St. Anthony dance in 1966, fell in love, and married in 1968. They were the loves of each other’s lives and rarely left each other’s sides. Andy and Nancy built a warm and loving home for themselves and their two children, Christine and David. They later welcomed their three grandchildren, Brian, Connor, and Julia, who they cherished. They would often treat the grandkids to a summer kiddie pool, Nanna’s cinnamon sugar apples, or fun with Abby, their dog. Their home was filled with warmth and love.
Nancy had a passion for many things over her lifetime. She was a Louisiana girl and New Orleanian at heart. She graduated Warren Easton High School and then went on to graduate from beauty school. She eventually started her own hair salon business that she ran for many years. She even inspired her mom, Elizabeth Ritter, to go to beauty school later in life.
Nancy enjoyed animals and especially loved her dogs and birds. She cared for them with much love. She liked making crafts. She created thousands of beautiful ceramic pieces. She sold some of her creations but also shared many of these treasures with family and friends. She won many awards for her ceramics. Nancy enjoyed writing and creating a number of short stories. She liked taking photographs of the clouds in the sky. She delighted in cooking family meals. Her roast beef was amazing. She appreciated flowers and gardens. She valued her relationship with God. With all of the things that she enjoyed in life, what was most important to Nancy, was her family. This was her greatest passion. She lived it every day.
Nancy loved to laugh, especially with her family and friends around the dinner table. She saw the good in the people she loved. She saw an individual’s potential and helped nurture their growth. She was kind and caring, with an incredible sense of empathy for others.
Nancy was a wife, a mom, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, and a friend. She was a beautiful person who touched so many lives in a wonderful way. She is now free from her suffering and at peace. Nancy made a difference in so many of our lives. She lived her life by example and made us better with her love. Our hearts ache as the world is an emptier place without Nancy. She will be forever missed.
Goodbye, Mom. Goodbye, my love.
