Nancy Elizabeth Borglum Holmes departed this life on December 3, 2019. She was born July 8, 1935 in New Haven, CT to the late Imogene Evans Borglum and George Paul Borglum. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd David Holmes, sisters; Imogene Borglum Alt and Paula Borglum Haughey, niece, Nancy Imogene Alt and the second love of her life, Paul DeMuynck.
She is survived by daughters; Cheryl Lee Holmes, Karen Holmes Fish (Ted), and son, Steven Lance Holmes (Tammy). Also, grandchildren, Chase Maxwell Sanchez, Catherine Elizabeth Habenicht (Chris), Kaitlynn Elise Fish, Madelynn Fish Varnado (Dylan), Lance David Holmes, Bradley Jordan Owens and Nicholas Paul Owens. Also, great-grandchildren, Rylee Madisyn Habenicht, Logan Matthew Habenicht, Wyatt Edward Habenicht and Lillian Marie Owens, and her beloved cocker spaniel, Molly.
Nancy attended High School in both Michigan and in Paris, France. She studied at Michigan State University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Nancy most loved spending time with her family and friends. While raising her children in Louisiana, many of her summer weekends included boating on the Tchefuncte River teaching them to water ski. She enjoyed writing poetry, puzzles, reading, gardening and trips to the beach. Her other passion was riding her Honda Goldwing Motorcycle and she served as Co-Director of the Louisiana Chapter K of the Gold Wing Road Riders. She and Paul traveled throughout much of the country on their “bike”, going as far as Mount Rushmore to see the monument which was sculpted by her great uncle, Gutzon Borglum. She was a member of the Les Amies Organization and Krewe of Rhea.
Nancy “never met a stranger”, was loved by all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed. Friends and family are invited to a visitation to be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home in Metairie on Saturday December 7th from 11:00 am. to 1:00 pm. followed by a memorial service there beginning at 1:00 pm.
