Melvin Eugene Jones

Melvin E. Jones, of Coffeeville, MS and longtime resident of Metairie, LA, died on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Johnson Jones; his parents, Orene and Cliff Jones; and his brother, Marvin Jones. After school, he spent 2 years in the US Army. His father, having a business in residential construction, encouraged his sons to join him which they did. Melvin took over his father’s business after he retired and formed his own company, Jones Construction, LLC.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memories his beloved daughters: Toni Thomas (David Shepardson) of San Francisco, CA, Cheryl Latham (Jeffrey) of Kilmichael, MS and stepdaughter, Connie Zapian (Frank) of Manassas, VA; seven grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a brother, Tom Jones (Dottie) and two sisters, Edith Bolster and Joyce Singer (Bobby). Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends. He will be missed and was loved by all who knew him.

A Funeral Service will be held at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to American Cancer Society, 2605 River Road, New Orleans, LA 70121.
