Gerard "Jerry" John Brady Sr.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Damare Brady, his two children, Gerard “Jay” Brady, Jr (Kathryn) and Erin Margaret Brady (Doug), and his two grandchildren, Finnegan Green Brady and Connor Barrios Brady. He is also survived by his loving sister, Mildred Brady whom he endearingly called “Sistah.”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin John Brady and Mildred Bodenheimer Brady, and his sister, Rose May Brady Hayes.

Jerry was a proud graduate of Jesuit High School (“Jezz Witts”), and kept in close contact with his friends and classmates over the years. He attended Loyola University (“Lie-YO-la”) on a baseball scholarship, lettering all 4 years, and is a two-time Loyola Hall of Fame inductee as both an individual player and a team member. He had the most stolen bases in the nation his junior year of college, and stayed involved in Loyola athletics throughout his life. After graduation, Jerry and Margaret lived in Germany, where he was stationed while serving in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, Jerry worked with Proctor & Gamble, NOPSI, and LP&L, eventually landing with Entergy where he served as Personnel Manager. He was particularly proud of staffing the Waterford III nuclear power station during its conditioning and startup phase. More recently, he enjoyed holding forth on topics of Great Import on the Harahan Civil Service Commission. Jerry was a lover of bottomless cups of free coffee, especially when combined with long bouts of idle conversation and laughter. He was an aficionado of a well-executed Safety Supper. An amateur magician and enthusiastic collector of pennies, he could either pull them from an ear or pass them through a belly with equal aplomb. He was a lover of a day at the casino, a poker game with poor players, loose slot machines, the morning paper, and a buffet that someone priced too low because those crab legs alone cost a fortune. He was an advice giver to children and took pride in watching everyone grow up. He was the official family chauffeur and would give a ride to anyone at anytime anywhere. We will miss his smirk and his long phone calls.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 9AM – 11AM with a memorial Mass to begin at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Loyola Baseball Scholarship Fund.
