Georgia Y. Moore, of Metairie, LA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at the age of 79. Daughter of the late George M.P. Young and Marie Herl Young, beloved wife of Charles G. Moore, devoted and loving mother of Georgmarie Moore, loving sister of the late Patricia Brown (Laverne Charles) and Herl Young (Suzanne), and sister-in-law to the late Elizabeth M. Taylor. Cherished aunt to Melissa Morgan (Huw), Cynthia Maher (James), Ted Brown (Jenny), Bonny Jones (David), Paul Young, Molly Ellis (Duke), Scott, and Mark Taylor. She is survived by several loving great-nieces and nephews, cherished cousins, and many treasured friends.
Georgia was a devout Catholic and contributor to several religious organizations. She had been a member of the Catholic Alumni Club, where she met her husband, Charles. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1966 from Louisiana State University, she was a teacher for the Jefferson Parish public school system for over 20 years and was an active participant in the beginnings of the Head Start program. Georgia enjoyed helping shape the minds of young students. The children that touched her life were never forgotten by her. Her love for education never waned throughout her life. She was always reading and learning about numerous subjects. She inherited her appreciation of ships and the armed services from her father, her devotion to teaching from her mother, and her love of animals and the importance of agriculture from her treasured memories of times spent on a family farm.
A conversation with Georgia was much more than talking about the weather. A long story was never short with her. She transported you to the time and place she would talk about. Whether it was cherished memories of her times in Illinois and Virginia or her love of New Orleans, her stories shined brightly on places no longer here and memories of various establishments that live on. She was always ready for a good laugh and chose to look on the bright side of things. Georgia had the heart and soul of both the North and the South.
Services will be held on Monday, March 20th at St. Angela Merci Catholic Church 901 Beverly Gardens Drive, Metairie, LA 70002, with a visitation from 12-1 PM and the Mass of Christian burial at 1 PM, officiated by the Rev. Clayton J. “Beau” Charbonnet, III. Interment as permitted at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery, Rural Route 1, Elizabethtown, IL 62982, officiated by the Rev. Vincent Mukasa, pastor of St. Joseph's Church.
