Dennis attended Dickinson High School and also Delaware Technical for two years where he studied engineering and electronics. (He was a gifted and promising engineer who seemed able to figure out anything mechanical at will)
Before he got sick, Dennis was a robust person. He rode motorcycles, traveled with his wife, played golf and liked to bowl. He was an avid collector who had a most notable toy train collection. He often passed his time entertaining himself and others with his skill at the keyboards and harmonica. When his health permitted, he always had a project in the works; his home in Newark and later in Middletown bears witness to his exceptional handiwork.
He most loved his job at the formerly known Atlantic Aviation in New Castle, DE where he wired and sometimes test flighted private planes. He was well prepared for this role after having spent 4 years in the US Navy where he learned his trade. Later, and before becoming disabled, he was the maintenance director for Emory Hill Real Estate.
Dennis spent his whole life in Delaware except for the last 6 months of his life. At his wife’s urging, he moved to Metairie, LA to be nearer to his son, Robert Alvarez and his granddaughter, Alexis Alvarez. Both survive him, along with his wife Theresa Alvarez-Dolan. He spent his last Christmas holidays with all of them.
Dennis is also survived by his two sisters in law, Maria Conte and Leigh Scatasti, brother in law Rob Clausen, nephew Brian Scatasti, and niece Deanna Scatasti and her daughter, Jayla.
Memorial services will be held in Dennis’ home state of Delaware. Interment will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear DE, where we will say our final goodbye to a wonderful man.
