Charles Harvey Schindler Jr.

Charles Harvey Schindler, Jr., age 78, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2011. Husband of the late Carolyn Simpson Schindler. He is survived by five children: Marion Jackson (Ray), Charles H. Schindler III (Celeste), Gwen S. Yeager (John), Steven Schindler and Melissa Schindler; ten grandchildren: Melissa Honsinger, Michelle Martin, Malane Melancon, Lauren Fisher, Michael, Brian, Jamie, Steven and Brandon Schindler and Katherine Aranda. Also survived by 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Miriam Rohner and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Miriam Riedlinger Schindler Costanza and Charles Harvey Schindler, Sr. and a brother, Gerald A. Schindler.

Harvey retired as a chief of the Jefferson Parish Fire Department. He had also driven a school bus for Jefferson Parish Public School System in addition to driving a cab for Metry Cab Service. He served in the U.S. Army, was a member and past president of the Jefferson Lions Club, served as officer for the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation and also volunteered many years at East Jefferson General Hospital.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 7:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 4:00 pm. Interment will be private.
