Anna Mae Navarro died at her home at the age of ninety five. Anna Mae was born in Garyville, LA, to the deceased Anna Chetta Navarro and Anthony Navarro, and lived in New Orleans for the past seventy years. She is survived by her siblings Rose Rester, Gloria Ballestas, and Louis Navarro, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her deceased siblings include Mary Poirrier, Leon Navarro, Josephine Becnel, Nicolas Navarro, Fano Navarro, Rosalie McDaniel, Anthony Navarro, and John Navarro. Anna Mae was the owner and operator of a beauty salon for over thirty years. She was a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America-Court Mater Dei #868, director of their choir for many years, and a choir member of St. Francis of Assisi parish. An honor was bestowed upon her CDA choir when Archbishop Rummel asked them to sing at the joyful celebration of the Assumption in 1950 at St Mary’s Church.
Family, friends and parishoners of St. Francis of Assisi are invited to attend the visitation and mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church on 631 State St. on Thursday August 19th at 9:00 am. The mass will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sister Servants of Mary Servants, 5001 Perdido St., New Orleans, LA, 70122.
